JAMIE LIDDLE FROM DARLINGTON SENTENCED AFTER HORRIFIC HOME SEXUAL ASSAULT
In a disturbing incident that has left a community shaken, Jamie Liddle, a resident of Darlington, was convicted of a serious sexual assault that took place within the victim's own home.The assault occurred in the early hours of September 19, 2022, and has since garnered significant attention from local authorities and the community alike.
According to court proceedings, the victim, who wishes to remain anonymous, was subjected to a terrifying ordeal when Liddle forcefully entered her residence.
The woman recounted how Liddle managed to get inside her home on Eastbourne Road, Darlington, after which he quickly secured the door behind him, throwing the key across the room to prevent her from following him or escaping.
During the attack, Liddle forcibly pushed her to the floor and committed a sexual assault that lasted approximately five minutes.
The victim, who was trying to protect her sleeping children upstairs, was unable to resist fully and chose to remain silent during the assault to avoid waking her children.
In an attempt to continue his assault, Liddle tried to ascend the stairs, but the victim managed to intervene, forcing him out of the house.
She then retrieved her keys and managed to lock him outside, effectively ending the immediate threat.
The court heard that Liddle attempted to leave the scene but was recognized by someone he knew, which led to his realization of the gravity of his actions.
As he left, he reportedly said, “I have f***ed up.
I am going to jail,” indicating an awareness of the seriousness of his conduct.
Prosecutor Paul Abrahams detailed the incident, emphasizing the victim's distress and the duration of the assault.
He explained that the woman was silent during the attack to prevent waking her children and that the assault was ongoing for about five minutes.
The victim later provided a victim impact statement, describing the profound emotional and psychological toll the assault has taken on her.
She expressed feelings of devastation and despair, stating, “He has made me feel like I can’t go on; he has made me feel like I don’t want to be here.” Jamie Liddle, aged 30, of Eastbourne Road, Darlington, pleaded guilty to the charge of assault by penetration.
His guilty plea was accepted by the court, which subsequently sentenced him to three years and four months in prison for his actions.
The sentencing reflects the severity of the crime and the impact on the victim, as well as the community’s concern over such violent offenses occurring within the safety of one’s own home.
