BRIGHTON TEENAGER JAMIE CRADOCK SENTENCED FOR RAPE AND ASSAULT IN BRIGHTON
In a case that has shocked the Brighton community, 17-year-old Jamie Cradock from Stanmer Villas was convicted of heinous sexual offenses involving two young girls. The incidents, which took place in Brighton, culminated in a sentencing that reflects the severity of his crimes.
Cradock was found guilty on Monday of two counts of rape, with the court hearing disturbing details about his actions.
Judge Richard Brown, presiding over the case at Lewes Crown Court, expressed his condemnation of Cradock’s conduct, emphasizing that the teenager had shown no remorse for his actions and posed a significant risk to the public.
The judge’s comments underscored the gravity of the crimes committed by Cradock, who was only 15 at the time of the first assault.
The court was informed that Cradock’s first attack occurred in Brighton in March 2006.
At that time, he was just 15 years old.
The victim, a 15-year-old girl, was ambushed after she became separated from her friends.
Cradock’s actions during this incident were described as predatory, and he reportedly laughed while assaulting her, a detail that added to the court’s perception of his lack of remorse.
The second assault took place in the early hours of June 18, 2006.
The victim, a 16-year-old girl, was approached by Cradock after he engaged her in conversation.
He then kissed her and persuaded her to walk with him down an alleyway.
As they moved further along the pathway, Cradock attempted to undress her.
When she objected and resisted, he forcibly raped her.
The court heard that after the assault, Cradock called her a “bitch,” a comment that further demonstrated his aggressive attitude.
The victim, visibly distressed, returned to her friends, disheveled and crying.
Throughout the proceedings, Cradock’s defense argued that he believed the girls consented to the sexual encounters.
His lawyer, Tony Loader, stated, “Jamie’s position has always been, ‘I never intended to harm or cause injury.
My intention throughout was to have sexual intercourse with them.’ He has expressed remorse, saying, ‘I’m sorry,’ if he misread the signals.” Despite these claims, the jury deliberated for only 90 minutes before returning a guilty verdict.
Judge Brown addressed the court, condemning Cradock’s actions and their impact on the victims.
“The evidence that the jury heard indicated that you blighted the lives of the two young ladies by subjecting them to horrific attacks,” he said.
The judge’s words reflected the seriousness with which the court viewed the crimes.
As part of his sentence, Cradock was sentenced to five and a half years in prison.
Additionally, he was ordered to serve three years on license following his release and to register as a sex offender.
The case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers faced by young women and the importance of justice in cases of sexual violence in Brighton.
