    JAMES YOUNG, TEACHER AND VENTURE SCOUT LEADER, JAILED IN RUGELEY FOR CHILD PORNOGRAPHY

    In May 2003, James Young, a teacher and Venture Scout leader from Rugeley, Staffordshire, was sentenced to prison for possessing child abuse images. Police raided Young's residence on Ferncombe Drive and discovered 100 images on his computer depicting minors engaged in sexual acts with adults. Young admitted in Stafford Crown Court to 16 charges of creating indecent photographs between January and May 1999. He was sentenced to nine months in jail and was also ordered to sign the Sex Offenders' Register for a period of ten years.

    Following the investigation and raid, Young resigned from his position at Wilnecote High School in Tamworth. Prosecutor David Jackson explained that police visited Young's home in September and recovered photographs showing girls around puberty and older involved in sex acts with adults. Although some images had been deleted, police were able to retrieve them. Jackson added that Young had used his credit card to pay $29 for membership to pornographic websites, which helped authorities trace his activities.

    Defence lawyer Richard Atkins stated, 'There was no suggestion of him distributing any material and it was not an abuse of trust.'
