RUGELEY MAN RECEIVES SUSPENDED SENTENCE FOR EXTENSIVE CHILD PORN COLLECTION
A man accused of possessing extremely disturbing images and videos involving children and other illicit content has avoided immediate imprisonment.Jack Birch, who resides on Green Lane in Rugeley, was found with graphic indecent material depicting infants as young as under a month old, along with toddlers and young children subjected to sexual violence.
Authorities discovered these files when they raided his home and examined his phone, laptop, and hard drive.
In addition, Birch was found to have in his possession extreme pornography that included acts of bestiality, necrophilia, and murder.
Prosecutors revealed that Birch had also searched online for scenarios involving the rape of babies.
At Stafford Crown Court, Birch pleaded guilty to three charges related to downloading indecent images.
The first involved acquiring 601 Category A images, which are considered the most severe.
The second involved 345 images and videos classified as Category B, and the third consisted of 264 images in Category C.
Alongside these, Birch admitted to possessing 512 images deemed extreme pornography and a separate charge for possessing a prohibited image of a child.
These offenses took place between May 14 and December 30 of 2020.
Prosecutor Simon Rippon told the court that police identified Birch through his Twitter activity, which led to a search of his home and electronic devices in December 2020.
The devices revealed metadata-cleaning software and an app used to access inaccessible images, including disturbing pictures of children and babies being subjected to abuse, torture, and suffocation.
Birch's defense lawyer, Matthew Cullen, acknowledged his client’s full admission and remorse, emphasizing that Birch had no previous convictions and was taking steps to address his behavior, including support from the Lucy Faithfull Foundation.
The judge, Kristina Montgomery, described the images as some of the most harrowing she had seen, involving violence against children and animals, mutilation, necrophilia, and even beheading.
While noting Birch’s lack of prior convictions and remorse, she also stressed the seriousness of the offences.
Birch was sentenced to 20 months in prison, suspended for two years, and will be on the sex offenders' register for a decade.
He was also subject to a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
