JAMES SMITH
Leeds Crown Court was informed that on April 25, 2019, officers from West Yorkshire Police arrived at Smith's address to carry out a search warrant.
During the search, they seized two mobile phones, a laptop, and a hard drive, which were later examined and found to contain a total of 1,516 images depicting child abuse.
Among these, 28 images were classified as category A, indicating the most severe level of illegal content.
Prosecutor Carmel Pearson explained that the images had been accessed over a span of three years, from April 2016 through March 2019, and showed signs of being organized.
In addition, authorities uncovered a separate folder containing images of a girl who was 15 years old.
Smith, who was interviewed by police, initially denied any involvement and claimed he had received an invitation to view the images, which he said he could not stop from being sent to him.
Further evidence demonstrated that he had searched online using terms suggestive of sexual interest in children.
The 29-year-old, residing on Kentmere Avenue in Seacroft, pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images of a child and one count of possessing prohibited images.
Defense lawyer Khadim Al-Hassan noted that Smith admitted guilt early on and stated he had not committed any offences in nearly three years since his arrest.
A probation report suggested that Smith was suitable for a program aimed at preventing reoffending.
Judge Jude Tom Bayliss QC remarked on the need to protect the public from Smith and stated that the most effective measure would be the order proposed by the probation service.
Smith received an eight-month jail sentence, suspended for two years.
Additionally, he was ordered to undertake 30 days of rehabilitative activities and to be on the sex offender register for a decade.
