JAMES SERGEANT FROM MIDDLESBROUGH SENTENCED TO 12 YEARS FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES AND FILMING ABUSE
In April 2018, a disturbing case emerged involving James Sergeant, a man from Middlesbrough, who was convicted of a series of heinous child sex crimes.Sergeant, who openly admitted to being a paedophile, was found to have engaged in a disturbing pattern of grooming, molestation, and exploitation of young boys.
The criminal activities came to light when police officers executed a raid on Sergeant’s residence on Cargo Fleet Lane in Middlesbrough.
During the search, authorities seized his computer and discovered a horrifying collection of digital material.
The investigation revealed more than 2,300 images depicting child abuse, alongside over 60 videos that Sergeant had recorded himself, capturing his own acts of abuse.
The videos and images provided a chilling insight into Sergeant’s depraved conduct.
Court proceedings revealed that he had filmed himself abusing two underage boys several years prior.
In one disturbing incident, Sergeant asked one of the boys what he would do for a dare, then proceeded to touch him, encouraged the boy to touch him in return, and urged them to watch pornography and participate in degrading sexual acts.
Prosecutor Robin Turton described Sergeant’s interests as being specifically focused on prepubescent boys, highlighting the severity of his predatory behaviour.
The collection of images found on Sergeant’s computer was equally disturbing.
Most of the images had been downloaded from the internet, but over 600 of them were classified as the most serious level under law, indicating extreme abuse.
The evidence painted a picture of a man deeply involved in the exploitation of children, with a clear pattern of sexual misconduct.
When police arrested Sergeant on suspicion of rape, he initially denied any wrongdoing, claiming, “No that hasn’t happened.
It’s not me.” However, subsequent investigations and evidence led to his confession.
Sergeant, who resided on Cargo Fleet Lane in Middlesbrough, later admitted to a total of 20 charges.
These included four counts of raping a child under 13, one count of sexually assaulting a child, five counts of engaging in sexual activity with a child, and six counts of causing or inciting a child to participate in sexual acts.
Additionally, he was found to possess indecent images of children, including 82 prohibited images and 21 images of extreme pornography.
Probation reports indicated that Sergeant lacked empathy and had a distorted view of his victims, often attributing adult qualities to the children involved.
His actions demonstrated a complete disregard for the harm caused to his victims and a disturbing level of predatory behaviour.
In sentencing, Sergeant received a prison term of 12 years, marking his first time behind bars.
The court also imposed a sexual harm prevention order, which prohibits him from working with or having unsupervised contact with anyone under the age of 16.
The order also restricts his use of the internet and electronic devices, aiming to prevent further offending.
Furthermore, Sergeant will be registered on the sex offenders’ register indefinitely, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities and compliance with legal restrictions.
