JAMES PEARSON OF LEEDS SENTENCED TO THREE YEARS FOR HORRIFYING CHILD INDECENT IMAGES IN BRADFORD
A persistent paedophile has been sentenced to three years in prison for hoarding and sharing thousands of shocking indecent images of young boys being raped and sexually abused.James Pearson, from Recreation Crescent, Holbeck, Leeds, was found to possess over 15,000 still and moving images classified across categories A, B, and C.
Bradford Crown Court was told that Pearson’s offending was relentless, with Judge Jonathan Rose describing it as "dreadful, persistent and prolonged." The judge emphasised the unimaginable suffering endured by the victims involved.
Prosecutor Marte Alnaes explained that Pearson, 32, was initially arrested in March 2017 when police executed a search warrant at his home.
During the investigation, Pearson refused to cooperate and secured his computer with encryption, which delayed authorities' access to the images.
While still under investigation, he resumed hoarding indecent images and was again caught in December 2019 with a new collection.
Alnaes added that Pearson had shared some of the images from his original collection with other paedophiles, with over 80 images shared, including 22 at the most severe category A.
Pearson’s barrister, Sean Smith, acknowledged that the nature and volume of the images, along with the young age of some victims, were aggravating factors.
Smith reflected that Pearson faced personal difficulties growing up and found forming relationships challenging.
His mother and grandmother depended on him, and Smith expressed concern about the impact prison would have on them.
A probation officer described Pearson as being at low risk of reoffending and capable of rehabilitation.
Nonetheless, Judge Rose highlighted that Pearson had contributed to the suffering of approximately 15,000 children, many of whom were depicted being raped while bound.
The judge pointed out that Pearson, an educated man with responsibilities, actively distributed this heinous material.
While under police investigation, Pearson continued to collect more indecent images.
He pleaded guilty to making and distributing child indecent images and possessing extreme pornographic images.
He received a two-year sentence for the initial offences committed in 2017, with an additional 12 months to run consecutively for the later offences, totalling three years.
Additionally, Pearson is required to sign the sex offender register for life, and a Sexual Harm Prevention Order without a time limit was imposed on him.
