JAMES MCKNIGHT FROM NEWQUAY SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL OFFENCES IN TRURO

In May 2013, James McKnight, a 23-year-old resident of Newquay, was convicted at Truro Crown Court on multiple counts of heinous sexual offences committed against a young girl. The court found him guilty of causing a female child to engage in sexual activity on two separate occasions, as well as raping her five times. The victim, a girl aged between five and seven years old at the time, was subjected to these grave abuses over a period of time. Additionally, McKnight was convicted of two counts of sexual assault of a girl under 13, one count of sexual assault by penetration on a girl under 13, and one count of causing a child to watch a sexual act. The severity and extent of his crimes led to a sentence of nine years in prison.

Furthermore, McKnight was ordered to be subject to an indefinite sexual offences prevention order and was mandated to register as a sex offender for life, reflecting the seriousness of his crimes and the ongoing risk he poses to the community. His incarceration began in 2013, and he is currently held at Dartmoor Prison in Devon. His earliest possible release date is set for November 2017, but he must serve a minimum of six years, less 216 days already served, before the parole board can even consider his release.

Adding a disturbing layer to the case, it was revealed that McKnight’s father, James McKnight senior, was sentenced in September 2009 to an indeterminate prison term after pleading guilty to launching nine separate sexual attacks on a schoolgirl. His father admitted to four counts of indecent assault, three counts of rape, and two counts of sexual activity with a child. Notably, James McKnight senior had previously served a six-year sentence for a knifepoint rape committed in 1989. The elder McKnight’s ongoing incarceration underscores a troubling family history of sexual offenses.
