JAKE TUCKWELL SENTENCED IN SHETLAND FOR SEXUAL OFFENSES INVOLVING TEENAGER FROM STAFFORDSHIRE AND STOKE-ON-TRENT

In a case that has drawn significant attention across multiple regions, 31-year-old Jake Tuckwell, a resident of Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent, has been sentenced for engaging in inappropriate and sexually explicit communications with a 14-year-old girl from Shetland. The incident, which spanned over a three-month period, culminated in Tuckwell being placed under supervision for two years, following his appearance at Lerwick Sheriff Court on Thursday morning.

Details of the case reveal that Tuckwell, who resides on Garfield Crescent in Stoke-on-Trent, pleaded guilty to the charges during an earlier hearing held in May. The court was informed that the offending behavior took place between April 1 and June 30, 2023. Prosecutor Duncan Mackenzie, representing the procurator fiscal, outlined the circumstances to the court, explaining that Tuckwell had been introduced briefly to the young girl through a mutual acquaintance, who was a colleague of his.

According to the court proceedings, Tuckwell initiated a conversation with the girl via Snapchat, during which she disclosed her age—just 14 years old. As their online interaction progressed, the messages from Tuckwell became increasingly sexual in nature, causing the teenager to feel extremely uncomfortable. She responded by screenshotting some of the messages and confiding in a colleague about the distress caused by Tuckwell’s inappropriate conduct.

During the hearing, the court reviewed a detailed criminal justice report, which was referenced by defence solicitor Tommy Allan. He urged Sheriff Ian Cruickshank to adhere to the recommendations outlined in the report. In response, the sheriff decided on a community payback order, which includes a period of supervision lasting two years. The order also involves participation in a support programme, although specific details of the programme were not disclosed. This sentence was handed down as an alternative to imprisonment.
