INVERNESS TEENAGER SENTENCED FOR POSSESSION OF CHILD ABUSE IMAGES

A convicted sex offender was discovered to possess additional indecent images and videos of minors.

Twenty-one-year-old Jake Milne was found to have nearly 4,000 images and over 500 videos depicting children as young as three years old.

During a hearing at Inverness Sheriff Court, it was revealed that police had a reason to speak with Milne on September 3 of last year.

During the encounter, officers discovered he possessed a smartphone that he had not disclosed.

Milne admitted to the officers that the device contained “child porn and child images.” Following his arrest, he revealed that he had additional phones and a different electronic device at his residence on Bruce Avenue in Inverness.

Authorities found a Microsoft phone housed in a black case, a laptop, two external hard drives, and another phone stored in a box.

The smartphones—specifically the main phone and the black Microsoft device—held a total of 3,926 images, some of which were accessible and some restricted.

Of these, 627 were classified as Category A (the most graphic), 666 as Category B, and 2,633 as Category C.

He also possessed 521 videos that could be accessed, with 339 categorized as Category A, 107 as Category B, and 75 as Category C, totaling nearly 16 hours of footage.

On November 24, police questioned Milne again, during which he admitted to owning an iPhone 16 and a Steam Deck—both of which he had not previously disclosed—and to not providing police with their serial numbers despite being advised to do so.

Analysis of his devices revealed multiple aliases used by Milne, including I Locke. An Key, leftchickenthigh, The Follower of the McRib, Ziggyob, and Moroni.

He had failed to inform police about these usernames.

Milne, who is held at HMP Inverness, pleaded guilty to possessing indecent images of children between May 19, 2018, and January 15, 2026.

He also confessed to failing to comply with two notification orders.

Sheriff Harvie postponed sentencing until June 9 to allow for background reports and ordered that Milne be placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register.

He was remanded in custody.

The police discovered the files on devices seized from his Inverness home after they executed a search warrant on May 31 last year.

The files spanned from May 19, 2019, to May 31, 2023, indicating he started his offending at a young age.

The investigation revealed 37 accessible and 66 inaccessible images classified as category A—the most severe—along with 74 accessible category A videos.

There were also other images and videos across categories B and C.

Milne, aged 19, was remanded in custody for eight months before appearing via videolink at Inverness Sheriff Court for sentencing.

He admitted to downloading the images and videos, with his defense acknowledging that he had no previous convictions but had been dealing with significant personal difficulties over the years and had accepted culpability.

The sheriff emphasized that this crime is not victimless, citing the harm caused to real victims by the demand for such images, which fuels ongoing abuse.

The court sentenced Milne to a three-year community payback order with supervision, 200 hours of unpaid community work, and ordered him to complete specific programs and abide by strict restrictions on his internet use.

Additionally, he will be registered on the sex offenders register for three years.
