MAN WHO RAPED WOMEN AND ASSAULTED BABY JAILED FOR 18 YEARS
A man described as a "violent and depraved" rapist who assaulted four former partners and a baby has received an 18-year prison sentence.Dariusz Matejewicz carried out a series of sexual assaults on three women over a span of 15 years, leaving one of them in the "worst pain she had ever experienced." His crimes took place in locations including Inverness, Aviemore, and Dingwall in the Highlands, as well as Glenrothes in Fife.
Despite denying all the allegations during his trial at the High Court in Edinburgh, the 39-year-old was found guilty in April on 12 counts, which encompassed five charges of rape, along with assaults that endangered life, bodily harm, indecent assault, and stalking.
Judge Lord Stuart sentenced Matejewicz to 18 years in prison, followed by an additional seven years on license in the community, with a risk of reimprisonment if he reoffends.
He was also granted lifelong non-harassment orders protecting all four women, barring him from any contact or approaching them, and was registered as a sex offender.
In his previous relationship in Inverness between May 2007 and September 2008, Matejewicz inflicted severe violence, including holding a knife to his partner’s neck, kicking her in the head, and pressing her hand onto a hot cooker.
He repeatedly raped and sexually assaulted her, threatening to kill her if she tried to leave.
In 2008, he was also involved in attacking a baby aged between three and six months on several occasions.
He restricted her breathing by forcing a fabric ball into her mouth, which impeded her airway, threatened to throw her against a wall, and dropped her in a pram acts deemed life-threatening.
The court heard he later raped a second woman while she was sleeping at her home in Glenrothes on October 5, 2011.
He subsequently assaulted a third woman in Dingwall, between October 2013 and June 2014, by striking her repeatedly, kicking her, pulling out her hair, and threatening her family.
He also raped her at a hotel in Dingwall in June 2014.
The final victim was targeted in the summer of 2021 at a residence in Inverness, where Matejewicz repeatedly raped her and threatened her with a knife, illustrating a pattern of violent and coercive behavior across his crimes.
