JAKE ADDERLEY AND REBECCA PERKINS FROM STOURBRIDGE CONVICTED FOR CRUELTY TO DOG WITH SEVERE INJURIES
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Stourbridge, Jake Adderley, born on September 9, 1989, and Rebecca Perkins, born on January 9, 1993, have been found guilty of cruelty towards a defenseless dog. The incident, which took place on Belmont Road in Brierley Hill and later involved their residence at Barne Close, Stourbridge, culminated in the tragic death of an innocent Jack Russell.According to court reports, the dog was subjected to such severe abuse that she sustained a hole in her head and a fractured skull, injuries so grave that veterinary professionals concluded she could not be saved. The animal was brought to the Water Front Veterinary Centre on October 28, 2011, in a critical condition, struggling to stand due to the extensive brain damage inflicted upon her.
Prosecutor Mr. Nick Sutton stated during the trial, “Someone has assaulted this animal and beaten it to death,” emphasizing the brutality of the injuries. It was revealed that the dog had been taken to veterinary clinics on multiple occasions prior to her death. On September 27, 2011, she was brought to the Water Front Veterinary Centre with swollen eyes, and later, on October 14, she was taken to the PDSA with bruised eyes, swelling under her jaw, and a fractured rib.
Both Adderley and Perkins denied causing the injuries directly but admitted to neglecting the dog’s health by failing to seek proper veterinary treatment. During the proceedings, Perkins’s defense lawyer, Mr. Michael Davies, explained that the couple had purchased the dog online. He recounted that on October 28, Perkins returned from a shopping trip to find the dog in a severely deteriorated state, with injuries that were clearly visible.
Mr. Davies acknowledged that Perkins should have recognized the severity of the situation between October 19 and 28 and taken immediate action. Meanwhile, Adderley’s defense, represented by Mr. John Harmshaw, stated that although Adderley noticed the injuries, he did not take any steps to address them, partly because other people had entered the home during that period.
The case was scheduled for sentencing in September 2012, but the final outcome was not publicly disclosed at that time. The case has left a lasting impact on the local community of Stourbridge, highlighting the importance of animal welfare and the consequences of neglect and cruelty towards animals.
