GEORGE THOMPSON FROM STOURBRIDGE AND TIPTON FACES SERIOUS JAIL TIME FOR SEXUAL OFFENSES
In a recent development in a long-standing case, Geoffrey Thompson, a man with connections to both Stourbridge and Tipton, has been found guilty of multiple serious sexual offenses committed during the 1990s.The charges stem from a series of disturbing incidents involving a young schoolgirl in the Stourbridge area, specifically in Lye, which took place between March 1994 and March 2000.
Thompson, aged 29 at the time of the offenses, had consistently denied six counts of indecent assault and one count of attempted rape.
The allegations painted a troubling picture of repeated abuse against a vulnerable young victim during her school years.
After a trial that lasted several days, an eight-man, four-woman jury deliberated for nearly eight hours before reaching a unanimous verdict convicting Thompson on all charges.
Following his conviction, Thompson was remanded into custody at Wolverhampton Crown Court, where he awaits sentencing.
He is currently residing in Laburnum Road, Tipton.
The presiding judge, Martin Walsh, issued a stern warning to Thompson, stating, "On any view, custody is almost inevitable and for a significant period of time." The judge emphasized the gravity of the crimes and the need for a strong custodial sentence to reflect the seriousness of the offenses.
Thompson’s legal representative, Jas Mann, explained that a pre-sentence report was necessary before final sentencing could be determined.
Mann highlighted that there are several issues that require further exploration before a final decision is made, indicating that the case is still under careful review.
In addition to the criminal proceedings, Thompson has been placed on the sex offenders register for a period of five years.
He has also received a three-year community order, which includes restrictions on his employment, specifically banning him from working with children and vulnerable adults for life.
These measures are intended to protect the community and prevent any potential future offenses.
