KILMARNOCK TEEN JACK MORAN CAUGHT WITH DOZENS OF CHILD INDECENT IMAGES

In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Kilmarnock, an 18-year-old local resident named Jack Moran has admitted to possessing a significant collection of indecent images depicting children. The incident came to light after police investigations uncovered his involvement in downloading and storing such material over a period spanning from September 2011 to December of the previous year.

According to the prosecution, Scott Toal, authorities became aware of Moran’s suspicious online activity through Skype communications. This prompted a police response to Moran’s residence in Kilmarnock, where he lives with his parents. The police arrived at his home early in the morning, around 8 am on November 29, armed with a search warrant to conduct a thorough search of his property.

During the search, officers seized several items from Moran’s bedroom, including a laptop computer. A forensic examination of the device revealed that it contained a disturbing collection of indecent images. Specifically, investigators found 138 still and moving images featuring children aged between four and 16 years old. Among these images, one was classified at the highest category of severity, depicting two boys approximately 10 years old engaged in sexual activity.

When questioned at Kilmarnock police station, Moran chose to remain silent, replying ‘no comment’ to all inquiries. The forensic analysis confirmed that the images had been downloaded onto his laptop rather than created by him. Further investigations uncovered Skype conversations that appeared to suggest contact of a sexual nature, adding to the evidence against him.

The case was brought before Kilmarnock Sheriff Court, where Moran pleaded guilty to the charges. His sentencing was deferred until September 29 to allow for a criminal justice social work report, a risk assessment, and consideration of a restriction of liberty order. Sheriff Alistair Watson emphasized the importance of understanding Moran’s background and the potential risk he posed, stating, “I clearly need to know more about you and have some form of risk assessment carried out.”

As part of the legal process, Moran was granted bail and was placed on the sex offenders’ register, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities. The case remains a stark reminder of the serious nature of online crimes involving minors and the importance of law enforcement vigilance in protecting vulnerable children.
