JACK HODGESON FROM BRADFORD SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULTS ON GIRLS AT IDLE CHURCH YOUTH CLUB
In August 2013, a disturbing case involving a paedophile from Idle, Bradford, came to light, revealing a series of sexual assaults committed against young girls at a church youth club where the offender was a trusted figure.Jack Hodgeson, aged 65, was found guilty of multiple charges related to his inappropriate and criminal conduct towards vulnerable minors during the late 1980s and early 1990s.
Hodgeson exploited his position of authority and trust within the community to prey on young girls attending the youth club.
The victims, some as young as eight years old, endured a series of distressing incidents that only came to public attention many years later.
According to prosecutor John Topham, Hodgeson attempted to kiss one of the girls, who was just eight at the time, in a walk-in cupboard while they were putting away equipment.
The girl struggled to escape from his grasp, managing to break free from the inappropriate advances.
Another girl, also eight years old and described as one of Hodgeson’s favorites, was similarly subjected to a sexualized kiss in the same cupboard.
The case further revealed that a third girl was assaulted twice—first when she was eight and later when she was 11.

Topham explained that during the first incident, Hodgeson physically lifted the girl and held her against his body, an act of sexual misconduct.
The second assault involved him kissing her on the lips, adding to the severity of his actions.
The crimes only came to light in 2012 when one of the victims, recognizing Hodgeson working as a volunteer, decided to contact the authorities.
She reached out to the other victims, and together they reported the incidents to the police, leading to Hodgeson’s arrest and subsequent prosecution.
Hodgeson, who resides at Gerrard House in Idle, Bradford, pleaded guilty to four charges of indecent assault.
During the court proceedings at Bradford Crown Court, Judge Jonathan Rose addressed the gravity of his misconduct.
The judge emphasized that Hodgeson had been in a position of trust and responsibility towards the young girls but also acknowledged his guilty plea, which influenced the sentencing.
As a result, Hodgeson was sentenced to three months in prison, suspended for two years.
Additionally, he was ordered to complete 180 hours of unpaid community service.
The court also mandated that he participate in a medium-level activity for 30 days, intended to help him come to terms with his status as a paedophile.
Judge Rose made it clear that Hodgeson’s actions were not acts of affection but sexual behavior directed at innocent children, which the community strongly condemns.
Furthermore, Hodgeson was required to register as a sex offender for a period of seven years.
He was also prohibited from engaging in any employment that would bring him into contact with children, aiming to prevent any future harm.
Following the case, Detective Constable Jodie Hayes of the Bradford Child Safeguarding Unit issued a statement condemning Hodgeson’s actions.
She highlighted that he abused his trusted position to commit serious offences against young girls and reaffirmed the community’s intolerance for such behavior.
Detective Hayes urged anyone who believed they had been victims or witnesses to similar crimes to come forward, either anonymously through Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111 or via the non-emergency police line at 101, to ensure that justice is served and communities remain safe.
