BOLTON PAEDOPHILE JACK CRAVEN CAUGHT WATCHING CHILD ABUSE IMAGES ON HIS TV
In December 2014, a disturbing incident unfolded in Bolton that ultimately led to the arrest of a pensioner accused of possessing and viewing illegal images of child abuse. The case began when a delivery driver, making a routine delivery to a residence in Bolton, noticed something alarming.
As he approached the property, he observed the occupant, Jack Craven, aged 82, sitting in his living room engaged with a large widescreen television.
To the driver’s shock and dismay, Craven was watching footage that depicted the abuse of children, a sight that was both disturbing and illegal.
Brian Berlyne, the prosecutor, detailed the events to Bolton Crown Court, explaining that the driver, visibly shocked by what he saw, decided to report the incident to the police after completing his delivery on December 9, 2014.
The authorities responded swiftly, and within three days, law enforcement officers obtained a search warrant to investigate Craven’s residence in Bolton, Greater Manchester.
During the search, officers seized various electronic devices, including a tower computer and a laptop.
A forensic examination of these devices revealed a horrifying collection of illegal images.
In total, investigators found 236 images classified as Category A, which are considered the most severe, depicting children as young as one being raped.
Additionally, there were 193 images categorized as Category B and a further 1,060 images rated as Category C, all of which involve different levels of abuse and exploitation.
Further analysis uncovered that Craven had deliberately searched for such illicit content.
He employed “cleaning” software in an apparent attempt to conceal his activities, and the images were stored in folders with suggestive names such as “paedo” and “schoolgirl,” indicating a clear intent to hide and organize the illegal material.
Despite the overwhelming evidence, Craven, a grandfather of three, maintained his innocence.
When charged with three counts of possessing indecent images of children, he denied knowingly possessing the images.
The case was brought before Recorder Philip Parry, who heard the details of the investigation and the evidence presented against Craven.
The case highlights the disturbing reality of online child exploitation and the importance of vigilant reporting to authorities to combat such heinous crimes.
