IVAN ARNOLD OF IPSWICH FACES LONG JAIL SENTENCE AFTER SEX OFFENSES ON YOUNG GIRL
In July 2007, a disturbing case emerged involving Ivan Arnold, a man with a long history of sexual offenses, who now faces the prospect of a lengthy prison term following a heinous assault on a young girl.Arnold, aged 61 and residing on Canham Street in Ipswich, has been convicted multiple times over the years for various sex-related crimes, demonstrating a troubling pattern of behavior that has persisted for over a decade.
Despite having been previously registered as a sex offender on two separate occasions, Arnold's criminal conduct continued.
The latest incident occurred on June 5, when he deliberately lured a brother and sister into his home after noticing them playing in a communal area within his neighborhood.
Exploiting their innocence, Arnold subjected the six-year-old girl to a sickening sexual assault, an act that has shocked the local community and prompted swift legal action.
Following the assault, the young girl courageously recounted the traumatic event to her parents, who immediately contacted law enforcement authorities.
Arnold was arrested three days later during a dawn raid on his residence, a police operation that underscored the seriousness of the case.
His arrest was a direct response to the child's brave testimony and the evidence gathered by investigators.
Arnold appeared before Ipswich Crown Court, where he pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including a serious sexual assault of a child under 13, two additional counts of sexual assault of a child under 13, and a breach of a sexual offences order.
Currently held on remand at Norwich Prison, Arnold awaits sentencing scheduled for the following month.
His criminal history is extensive, with previous incarcerations for sex offenses dating back to the 1990s.
In 1997, Arnold was sentenced to 12 months in prison for indecently assaulting two schoolgirls in Landseer Park, Ipswich.
Despite being required to sign the sex offenders’ register, he failed to update his details after moving to Vernon Street, Ipswich, which led to further legal complications.
During a 1998 court hearing, Arnold admitted that he was too frightened to disclose his new address, claiming he had been “forced out” of his previous residence after neighbors learned of his past.
Magistrates responded by issuing him a 12-month conditional discharge.
His criminal activities persisted, and in 2002, Arnold was convicted of indecently assaulting a 15-year-old girl.
During his trial at Ipswich Crown Court, he was labeled “a dirty old man” as evidence emerged that he had touched the girl’s bottom and attempted to lift her top at his Vernon Street flat, a location frequented by young people engaging in alcohol consumption and drug use.
Arnold denied two counts of indecent assault but was found guilty of one and acquitted of the other.
The court sentenced him to 30 months in prison and ordered him to sign the sex offenders’ register for ten years.
Further details from the 2002 case reveal Arnold’s admission to touching girls’ bottoms and asking them to go to bed with him, claims he justified as “playful jest” due to his impotence.
The court also noted that he had permitted his flat to be used for smoking cannabis.
His prior conviction in 1997 for assaulting schoolgirls was also highlighted during the proceedings.
Lindsay Cox, representing Arnold, stated that his client had made arrangements for his dogs to be cared for during his incarceration, acknowledging the gravity of his legal situation.
Arnold’s ongoing criminal behavior underscores the serious threat he poses, and the legal system is now poised to deliver a significant sentence to address his latest offenses.
