INGUS SILINS JAILED FOR VIOLENCE AND COERCION IN BIRMINGHAM

A man from Birmingham, Ingus Silins, has been sentenced to four years in prison following a brutal assault on his partner, which was the culmination of months of coercive and controlling behavior.

The incident and subsequent legal proceedings highlight the serious nature of domestic abuse and the importance of intervention.

On a recent Friday, at Birmingham Crown Court, Silins, aged 24, was formally convicted of multiple charges related to his violent conduct.

The events leading to his arrest began at his residence in Handsworth, a neighborhood within Birmingham, when concerned neighbors contacted emergency services after witnessing or hearing signs of distress from his partner.

It was the woman herself who, in a state of desperation, asked a neighbor to call an ambulance, revealing the severity of her injuries.

When police officers and paramedics arrived at the scene, they found the woman suffering from serious injuries, including a collapsed lung and fractured ribs.

She was promptly transported to a hospital where she received urgent medical treatment.

The assault was so severe that it left her physically injured and emotionally traumatized, underscoring the dangerous nature of Silins' actions.

Following his arrest, Silins was brought before Birmingham Magistrates Court, where he faced charges related to the assault, coercive and controlling behavior, and witness intimidation.

Despite being granted bail with strict conditions that prohibited him from contacting the victim, Silins continued to harass her.

He persistently sent messages via social media, attempting to manipulate her into retracting her statements or falsely claiming that she was not a victim of domestic abuse because he did not abuse her every day.

This behavior demonstrated his ongoing attempt to control and intimidate her even after legal restrictions were in place.

In court, Silins pleaded guilty to the charges of wounding, coercive and controlling behavior, and witness intimidation.

As part of his sentence, he was also issued an eight-year restraining order, which prevents him from approaching or contacting the victim for that period.

The case was a stark reminder of the persistent dangers faced by victims of domestic violence and the importance of legal measures to protect them.

Police Staff Investigator Kathryn Burns commented on the case, stating, “Silins was a manipulative and violent individual who left this woman scared and traumatised.

Thanks to her courage, Silins has been punished for his actions and has failed in his attempt at controlling her.

I hope that this encourages others in similar situations to come forward and speak out so that we can help them and bring more offenders like Silins to justice.”
