Ian Wood

Bolton Sexual Abuser

August 2017 Pervert sentenced at Bolton Crown Court for making indecent images of children A paedophile who claimed that more than 7,000 indecent images of children could have been downloaded by ‘accident’ was accused of not taking responsibility for what he had done as he was jailed. Ian Wood, of Uttley Street, Halliwell, was sentenced at Bolton Crown Court. Wood pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images of children on the first day of his trial earlier this week. Despite his guilty plea, Judge Timothy Stead found that Wood refused to accept responsibility for what he had done and despite having the chance to suspend his sentence, sent him to prison for 16 months. The court heard how police carried out a warrant at Wood’s home in July, 2014 and when officers searched a loft area found a computer and two USB sticks. Wood, aged 43, told officers that he had the images and said ‘the pictures were not right’. However, when he was formally interviewed by police he denied the offences and initially pleaded guilty to them. When the devices were analysed, police found 544 images of class A, the most serious kind, featuring children as young as four-years-old They also found 571 images of class B and 6045 images of class C. Kevin Liston, defending, said that Wood stands by the guilty plea he made. He added: “He tells me he is physically repulsed and sickened by this sort of active. He said they make him feel physically sick and it has impacted his health both physically and mentally. He also said that his client takes cannabis and spice, something that was a prevalent factor at the time of the offending and during the legal proceedings. When considering a sentence, Judge Stead said that the fact cleaning software was found on the computer, the young age of some of the children involved that there were videos were all aggravating features. He said: “You have sought to minimise your role in this offending. You don’t take responsibility for what you have done. “You even suggested on occasion this was an accident. I don’t agree with you in this case. “It seems to me that the reason for your offending is you are a paedophile and you will continue to be if you are allowed to do so.” Judge Stead decided not to suspend Wood’s sentence and sentenced him to 16 months in prison for the category A images, six months in prison for the category B images and six months for the category C images, all to be served concurrently. He was also placed on the sex offenders register for 10 years and given a sexual harm prevention order.
