IAN TAGUE AND SHOCKING SEXUAL ASSAULTS IN GATESHEAD
A man from Gateshead has been given a severe sentence following his conviction for heinous crimes involving the sexual abuse of three children.Ian Tague, aged 41, was sentenced at Newcastle Crown Court on Friday, May 12, to serve a minimum of 20 years in prison.
His conviction stems from a series of allegations where he was charged with 25 counts of rape and sexual assault directed against three vulnerable young victims.
The case against Tague culminated in his being found guilty by a jury last May, after which he was remanded into custody.
The court's decision mandates that he remains incarcerated for no less than two decades before he is eligible for parole consideration.
Additionally, Tague has been ordered to sign the Sex Offenders’ Register for life and is explicitly prohibited from making any contact with his victims.
Sergeant Nicola Wade, who is part of Northumbria Police’s Child and Adult Protection Unit, addressed the media with a stark and serious tone.
She described Tague as “a monster – there’s no other word for him,” emphasizing the threat he posed to children in the community.
Sergeant Wade expressed particular gratitude toward the victims, whose courage in speaking out was crucial to bringing the case to justice.
“Thanks to their bravery, we were able to identify other victims, who then bravely spoke out themselves, and build a strong case against vile Tague,” she explained.
Wade also acknowledged the profound impact these crimes have had on the victims, noting that Tague had undoubtedly robbed them of their innocence.
However, she offered reassurance, stating, “I hope they grow up knowing that what happened to them was never their fault, they did not deserve it, and they have shown incredible resilience.” The police officer further highlighted that thanks to the courage of the victims, Tague’s true nature as a predator was revealed, leading to his removal from society.
“He will forever more be known as a vile paedophile,” Wade added.
The sentence handed down, she concluded, is seen as a step toward justice for the survivors and their families, providing them with some measure of closure and the opportunity to focus on healing and moving forward.
