FORMER TEACHER IAN PRIESTLEY SENTENCED IN JERSEY FOR ABUSE CASE
In February 2019, Ian David Priestley, a 66-year-old former teacher, was sentenced to five years in prison for sexually abusing two teenage girls. The Royal Court heard that his victims 'lost their innocence' as a result of his offenses, which took place between the 1990s and 2003.
Priestley was found guilty last month on four counts of indecent assault and four counts of procuring acts of gross indecency.
He showed no emotion during today’s sentencing by the Superior Number, a court that convenes only for the most serious cases.
Prosecutor Crown Advocate Julian Gollop explained: 'These were offences committed by a mature adult against two naive teenagers who lost their innocence in consequence of the defendant's offending.' It was also revealed that Priestley was a former teacher at Les Quennevais and Le Rocquier, but he later left education to work in the finance industry in the late 1980s.
Notably, neither of the victims were his pupils.
