BRIGHOUSE MAN IAN PARKINSON CAUGHT AGAIN WITH CHILD PORNOGRAPHY IN BRIGHOUSE AND LEEDS

In November 2010, a disturbing case unfolded involving Ian Parkinson, a man from Brighouse, who was found to be involved in the possession of child pornography for the second time. The court heard that Parkinson, aged 61, was discovered to have indecent images of children on his computer while he was under police surveillance, following his previous conviction for similar offences.

Parkinson resides in Whinney Hill Park, Brighouse, and has a history of criminal activity related to child exploitation. Despite serving a jail sentence for possessing such material, he continued to engage in this illegal activity, which led to his re-arrest and subsequent court proceedings. During the hearing, it was revealed that Parkinson was not only estranged from his wife but also from his two sons, painting a picture of a man isolated and deeply troubled.

He was spared immediate imprisonment but was ordered to undergo treatment for what the court described as his 'perverse' behavior. The court was informed that Parkinson had admitted to possessing more than 800 indecent images of children, most of which were classified at the lowest level of severity. The case drew attention to his prior conviction in 2003, when he was sentenced to four months in prison at Leeds Crown Court for possessing high-level images of children. As part of ongoing police monitoring, an officer visited Parkinson’s home on November 19, 2008, and discovered items of ladies’ underwear along with evidence of child pornography on his computer.

Prosecutor Christopher Attwooll detailed that the images found on Parkinson’s seized computer depicted young girls as young as eight years old, some of whom were exposing themselves in revealing underwear. Parkinson’s defense lawyer, Ken Green, emphasized that the images were for personal use and not distributed. He also noted that Parkinson was downloading large quantities of pornography, with only a small fraction involving children.

It was only in December of the previous year that Parkinson was formally charged, and the stress of the ongoing case had taken a toll on him. Mr Green described Parkinson as a highly intelligent individual who had previously worked as a college lecturer in Greater Manchester. Despite this, the judge, John Potter, expressed concern about Parkinson’s apparent interest in the abuse of children, emphasizing the harm caused regardless of his intentions.

Judge Potter sentenced Parkinson to a three-year community order, which included mandatory attendance at the Sexual Offenders’ Treatment Programme. Additionally, Parkinson was subjected to a four-month curfew and ordered to complete 200 hours of unpaid work. An indefinite Sexual Offences Prevention Order was also imposed, and he was instructed to sign the sex offenders’ register until further notice, underscoring the seriousness of his violations and the ongoing risk he poses.
