Graham Collinson

Brighouse Sexual Abuser

April 2004 Chat fiend who lured girl of 14 A CALDERDALE man who admitted having sex with a 14-year-old girl after contacting her on the internet has been jailed for 12 months. Preston Crown Court heard that Graham Collinson, on business in Preston, met several girls, gave them money and bought them food. Later he invited the 14-year-old to his room where they chatted, watched TV and then had unprotected sex. Judge Stuart Baker told Collinson he had created temptation for himself. He set about gaining the girl’s confidence and took advantage of the situation in a way that went beyond being merely foolish and succumbing to temptation. The 35-year-old, of Wakefield Road, Brighouse, pleaded guilty to a charge of unlawful sexual intercourse with a girl under 16. Collinson was employed by a national security company and managed a depot for the firm in Preston. Katherine Pierpoint, prosecuting, said a group of girls had been on an internet chat room, for what one described as 16 to 18-year-olds, before Christmas. They clicked on to various names, one of them the defendant’s. The chatting continued for about a week and Collinson asked to meet them. Two girls and two friends later met him in Preston. He gave them money to get chips and kept in contact with one of them via mobile phone and internet. He was also said to have given one a 250 telephone. They kept in contact and he took them to the Holiday Inn, Preston. They had been on their way to school and were wearing school uniforms. He then began to meet the 14-year-old girl on her own. She visited his hotel room where kissing and cuddling took place and, on January 23,they had unprotected sex. The girl’s mother found out and told police. Collinson denied the girl had told him she was 14. Defence barrister Chris Hudson said: “He has been, he concedes, extremely foolish. He is old enough to know better. He wilfully closed his eyes to her age The judge told Collinson: “The court’s sentence must reflect the abhorrence that right thinking and decent members of the community must have when confronted by this sort of behaviour”. He directed Collinson be placed on the sex offenders register for 10 years. He was banned indefinitely from working with children.
