October 2013 Wolverhampton scout leader jailed for raping 10-year-old and sharing child sex pictures A Wolverhampton scout leader who raped a child and shared indecent images of children with other paedophiles has been jailed for 16 years. Ian Pain, of Linthouse Lane, Wolverhampton, was arrested at the home he shared with his parents on June 13 last year as part of a national operation. Police recovered 3,845 photographs and films of children being abused, including 68 level five images of the most extreme nature. The team also found that 1,305 photographs and films had also been distributed by the 48-year-old via chatrooms and file sharing websites. Almost all of the images were of boys aged between seven and 16 years old. A 10-year-old rape victim told a friend that he had been sexually abused for two years by Pain, who was suspended from the scouts and banned from refereeing junior football matches and serving as an outwards bounds instructor. Following the forensic examination of his computers, detectives were confident that the images did not include children he worked with. Pain was also ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register for life and banned from ever working with or communicating with children. Detective Constable Allan Sharp, from West Midlands Police, led the investigation. “The crimes the boy described were truly horrendous. “One can only imagine the immense burden the child had to bear alone and how that has negatively affected him.’’
