IAN LITTLEFIELD FROM NEWQUAY ESCAPES JAIL AFTER SEXUAL ASSAULTS IN CORNWALL

In a case that has shocked the local community, Ian Littlefield, a 46-year-old man formerly serving as the chairman of St Eval Parish Council, appeared before Truro Crown Court to face charges related to two serious sexual assault incidents. Despite the gravity of the crimes, Littlefield was spared immediate imprisonment, though he received a significant sentence involving community service and registration requirements.

Details of the case revealed that Littlefield was convicted of assaulting two women in Cornwall, with the incidents occurring in different locations within the county. The first assault took place in August 2014, when Littlefield attacked a woman in her early forties. The court heard that he forcibly trapped her inside a barn, during which he pulled her legs apart and pressed against her in a manner that caused her considerable fear. The victim feared she was about to be raped, and the trauma from this incident has left a lasting impact on her mental well-being.

The second incident was reported to have occurred on March 3, 2015, in the Wadebridge area. At that time, Littlefield was residing at Rialton Heights, located in Newquay. The court was informed that this assault involved a 16-year-old girl, who had previously been warned by her mother to stay away from Littlefield due to his inappropriate conduct. The prosecutor detailed how Littlefield had approached the girl at the stables, asking for a cuddle, and then proceeded to fondle her outside her clothing. He further took her breast out and kissed it, actions that have left the young girl feeling fearful and vulnerable.

Recorder Martin Meeke, QC, emphasized the severity of Littlefield’s actions, describing him as a bully with no regard for proper conduct towards women. The court also noted the emotional toll on the victims, especially the teenage girl, who now fears being in the company of older males. The prosecution highlighted that the 15-year-old girl’s mother had previously warned Littlefield to keep his distance, underscoring the inappropriate nature of his behavior.

Throughout the proceedings, Littlefield maintained his innocence, claiming that his actions were merely flirtatious and not criminal. He owned a business called Perfect Porkers, and his reputation was significantly affected by the allegations and subsequent trial. The court was also told that his marriage was under strain due to the ongoing legal issues.

In sentencing, Littlefield was given an 18-month prison term, suspended for two years, meaning he would not serve time unless he committed further offenses within that period. Additionally, he was ordered to complete 200 hours of unpaid community work, register as a sex offender for the next decade, and pay each of his victims £1,000 in compensation. The case has left many in Cornwall contemplating issues of trust and safety within their community, especially given Littlefield’s previous role as a local authority figure.
