September 2009 Keighley man preyed on boy over two-year period A school supervisor has been branded a predatory paedophile and jailed for three years for sexually abusing a 12-year-old boy. Ian Farley was convicted by a jury at Bradford Crown Court of sexually assaulting the child over a two-year period. Farley, 49, of Westbank Rise, Keighley, must sign on the sex offenders’ register for the rest of his life. He was also made the subject of a Sexual Offences Prevention Order, barring him from working with anyone under 16. Jailing him at the crown court today, Judge Jonathan Rose told Farley his partner had caught him committing “a dreadful and repulsive” sex act with the boy in October last year. Farley lied to her about what was going on and set off to flee to London. He turned back after he was contacted by the police. “You persistently lied and you continue to lie now,” Judge Rose said. “I have no doubt that you are a paedophile and there is something predatory about your paedophilia.” Judge Rose said that only time would tell the full extent of the psychological damage suffered by the child. “I think there is a very real risk that you may commit further sexual offences in the future,” he said. Farley, who has three children of his own, had been remanded in custody after his trial in July. His barrister, Nikki Peers, said he had worked as lunchtime supervisor at a school and in the voluntary sector. He wanted to move back to London, where he comes from, when he is released from prison. During the trial, the jury heard Farley abused his victim monthly for two years. He had also visited internet chat rooms and had made an indecent suggestion to a 14-year-old boy. The judge told Farley his age and previous good character prevented the jail sentence being longer.
