BRIGHTON CARETAKER JAILED FOR SEX OFFENCES AGAINST GIRL
A staff member at a school in Brighton who sexually abused a girl during a period of over three years has been handed a 12-year prison sentence.
Ian Ellingford, aged 51, residing on Ripe Lane in Firle, East Sussex, was found guilty of seven counts of rape and one of sexual assault involving the young girl.
The abuse occurred when the girl was between 11 and 13 years old, spanning a timeframe of more than a decade ago.
Detective Constable Suzy MacLintock noted that the girl was particularly vulnerable when Ellingford first approached her at her school, which she was about to leave.
Despite her changing schools, he continued to pursue her and engaged in grooming behaviors, ultimately committing multiple sexual offences.
She was not in a position to resist at the time, as he subjected her to a series of assaults.
It was only after gaining her confidence that she was able to disclose her experiences to others.
The court has now sentenced him to serve 12 years in prison.
