IAN COCKBILL SENTENCED IN WORCESTER FOR CHILD SEX OFFENSES AND OBSCENE MATERIALS
A man identified as Ian Cockbill has been sentenced to 73 weeks in prison following a thorough investigation conducted by West Mercia Police. The 59-year-old resident of Wichenford, Worcester, appeared before Worcester Crown Court on Tuesday, 22 January, where he pleaded guilty to serious charges involving child exploitation and the distribution of obscene material. In addition to his prison sentence, Cockbill has been placed on the sex offenders register for a period of ten years. Furthermore, he has been subject to a sexual harm prevention order, which will also last for a decade, restricting his activities and monitoring his behavior to prevent further offenses.
The criminal case against Cockbill was initiated after his arrest in December 2023, following an extensive investigation by the Online Child Sexual Exploitation Team (OCSET) of West Mercia Police. During the investigation, authorities discovered a category B indecent image of a child stored on his mobile device. The evidence also included a conversation in which Cockbill explicitly discussed his intentions to commit a sexual act involving a five-year-old child. These offenses are believed to have occurred in April and June of 2023.
Detective Constable Giuseppe Saladino, a member of OCSET, commented on the case, describing it as “a sickening case, where Cockbill demonstrated a desire to sexually abuse and harm a very young child.” He emphasized the importance of law enforcement’s efforts to protect vulnerable children and to remove offenders like Cockbill from the community. Detective Saladino reaffirmed the police’s commitment to “root out those intent on causing harm, and bring them to justice before the courts.”
