IAN BRADLEY FROM MIDDLESBROUGH JAILED FOR ONE DAY AFTER SERIAL SEX OFFENDER'S SHOCKING CASE

In a highly unusual and startling legal decision, Ian Bradley, a 41-year-old resident of Middlesbrough, was sentenced to just one day in jail following a series of serious criminal violations related to his status as a convicted sex offender.

The case, heard at Teesside Crown Court, drew significant attention due to the extraordinary circumstances surrounding Bradley's criminal history and recent breaches of court orders.

Bradley’s criminal record is extensive, with a history that includes 19 separate sexual offences.

His previous convictions led to a substantial prison sentence of eight years, with an additional three-year term, handed down in May 2006.

Since then, he has been subject to strict legal restrictions, including being placed on the Sexual Offenders Register for life and subject to a lifetime Sexual Offence’s Prevention Order (SOPO).

He was released from prison on licence in March 2011, but his freedom was short-lived.

In January 2013, police officers conducted a routine check at his residence in Middlesbrough due to concerns that he might have violated the terms of his SOPO.

During this inspection, authorities discovered a hidden camera phone concealed within his home.

The device contained a disturbing collection of indecent images of children, totaling 580 photographs.

Experts classified these images into different levels of severity: one at the most serious Level A, three at Level B, and the remaining 576 at Level C.

Bradley's breach of his prison licence led to his recall to custody, where he continued serving his sentence.

By the time of his latest court appearance, he had already served a total of two years and ten months in custody, a period that the prosecution highlighted equated to more than five years of actual time served.

However, the court clarified that this time would not be credited towards any new sentence he might face.

During the hearing, Bradley’s legal representative, barrister Tom Finch, argued that the punishment was disproportionate to the offences committed.

He requested that the court impose a sentence of just one day’s imprisonment, emphasizing that this duration was meant to reflect the time Bradley had already spent in custody, which he claimed was equivalent to a five-year sentence.

Finch stated, “That is far out of proportion to the offending,” and urged the judge to consider this context.

Judge David Hatton QC acknowledged the severity of Bradley’s criminal record but expressed understanding of the unusual circumstances.

He explained that he had contemplated imposing a six-month sentence but ultimately decided against it.

The judge stated, “Well, I understand now,” and emphasized that Bradley’s recall on licence and the time served in custody justified the minimal sentence.

“You have an appalling record, and were it not for the extraordinary events that have occurred, I would be imposing a not insubstantial prison sentence,” Judge Hatton remarked.

He concluded, “In the circumstances, there will be a sentence of one day’s imprisonment.” Bradley, who admitted to a single charge of making indecent images of children, was therefore released after serving the equivalent of nearly six years in custody, a decision that has sparked considerable debate and concern given the gravity of his offences.
