LEEDS SEX OFFENDER SENTENCED TO LIFE FOR VIOLENCE AND RAPE
A dangerous and violent sex offender has been sentenced to life imprisonment for subjecting a man who became his friend to degrading sexual and physical abuse.Hubert Duffus was convicted of rape, attempted rape, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and two sexual assault offences.
The court was told he had no fixed residence but formerly lived on Sholebrook Place, Chapeltown.
After being released from prison, he befriended a vulnerable individual who allowed him to stay in his flat in Wortley, Leeds.
Duffus then took complete control, subjecting his victim to violent and humiliating acts, including forcing him to shave his body hair and sleep on the floor.
Duffus was found guilty after a trial and sentenced to serve a minimum of seven and a half years before he can seek parole.
He was also ordered to remain on the sex offender register for life.
The judge highlighted his history of serious sexual and violent offences dating back to 1985 and previous convictions, including a 1993 sexual offences conviction and a 2007 conviction for a knife-point robbery of a taxi driver.
Doctors assessed him as posing a significant risk of harm to others, with his behaviour unlikely to change.
A police official commented that Duffus is a violent individual who thought nothing of raping and assaulting his victim, emphasizing that his lengthy sentence is meant as a warning to others.
He is now behind bars to contemplate his actions.
