IPSWICH MAN HARVEY BRETT JAILED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT
An Ipswich man who sent a sex video to a 15-year-old girl and sexually assaulted another teen after meeting up with her in Stowmarket has been jailed.
Twenty-one-year-old Harvey Brett was arrested after the 15-year-old girl’s mother discovered inappropriate messages on her daughter's phone, Ipswich Crown Court heard.
The messages included Brett expressing his desire to have sex with her and sending a video showing him masturbating, said Simon Gladwell, prosecutor.
Police examined Brett’s mobile device and found messages he sent to a 13-year-old girl discussing sex and meeting in Stowmarket.
Brett also asked the girl to send pictures of her bottom, and he met her once, touching her bottom over her clothing, according to the prosecution.
Brett claimed he believed the 15-year-old was 17 and argued his social media account had been hacked.
He denied ever meeting the 13-year-old and said a friend used his phone.
The court heard that these offences occurred in July last year.
His impact statement revealed the offending had a damaging effect on the 15-year-old, causing her anxiety and trust issues.
Brett, of Russell Road, Ipswich, admitted to two counts of sexual communication with a child, sexual activity with a child, and causing a child to watch a sexual act.
He was sentenced to three years in prison, banned from contacting the victims, and placed under a five-year sexual harm prevention order, as well as being ordered to register as a sex offender indefinitely.
His lawyer highlighted his difficult childhood, mental health issues, and history of self-harming.
Brett has been in custody since January.
