HANIF ALAM FROM BIRMINGHAM AND BURNLEY: SEX OFFENDER ON THE RUN AFTER BREACH IN LANCASHIRE
In a recent development, Lancashire Police have issued a public appeal to locate Hanif Alam, a known sex offender who has gone missing after failing to adhere to the strict conditions of his release from prison.Alam, who was previously incarcerated for a serious sexual assault, was last known to be residing in Burnley, Lancashire, but also maintains connections to Birmingham, Greater Manchester, and the West Midlands regions.
Alam, aged 31, was sentenced to serve 21 months behind bars following his conviction for sexual assault in November 2008.
His crime involved the molestation of a young schoolgirl on a bus, an incident that has left lasting trauma on the victim.
Despite being under regular supervision and monitoring, Alam failed to attend a scheduled appointment with authorities, raising concerns about his whereabouts and potential risk to the community.
Detective Constable Tim Aspinall of Lancashire Constabulary emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating, “If anyone has seen Alam or has any information about where he might be, I would urge them to contact us.
I would also urge Alam himself, if he sees this appeal, to hand himself in to the police.” The police are actively investigating his disappearance and are seeking assistance from the public to ensure his safe return or apprehension.
Alam’s criminal history dates back to a disturbing incident in April 2008, when he sexually assaulted a 15-year-old girl on a double-decker bus traveling from Walmer Bridge to Preston.
The victim, who was left traumatized by the attack, has been undergoing counseling and continues to suffer from flashbacks and sleep disturbances.
During the trial at Preston Crown Court, the court was told that Alam approached the girl on the top deck, attempted to kiss her, and began to molest her.
The girl managed to escape and immediately contacted her mother, but the emotional scars persisted.
Alam, then 25 and from Small Heath in Birmingham, denied the charges, claiming that the girl had lied and that no assault had taken place.
However, after a four-day trial, the jury found him guilty.
It was also revealed that Alam had a prior conviction involving an indecent assault, further highlighting his history of sexual misconduct.
Judge Stuart Baker sentenced Alam to 21 months in prison and ordered that his name be added to the sex offenders register for the next ten years.
In his victim impact statement, the girl expressed ongoing fear about using public transport alone, a fear compounded by Alam’s denial of the assault and his claim that she was lying.
The judge condemned Alam’s behavior, stating, “Being assaulted as she was on the top deck of a bus is bad enough but to be called a liar just adds to everything.” As the search continues, Lancashire Police remain committed to locating Alam and ensuring he faces the consequences of his actions.
The community is urged to remain vigilant and report any sightings or relevant information that could assist in his apprehension.
