2021: WORCESTER CHIPPY OWNER JAILED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT AND HARASSMENT
THE disgraced owner of a Worcester chippy has been jailed for sexual assault and harassment.
Gurminder Lola was sentenced to 36-weeks behind bars after being found guilty of a string of offences, which took place at the Bull Ring Chippy in St John's.
Lola was found guilty of three charges of sexual assault and one of harassment.
All the offences involved teenagers.
The court heard Lola sexually touched more than one victim on different occasions.
Magistrates ordered the 57-year-old to serve three consecutive 12-week sentences, one for each of the three charges of sexual assault - all against women aged 16 or older.
They said they were treating the assaults as particularly serious because of the victim's ages.
He was also given a further 12-week sentence, which is to be served concurrently, for the harassment charge.
Worcester Magistrates heard one young woman was subjected to a 'course of conduct' that amounted to harassment - including the 'tickling' and 'touching' of her hips - which left her feeling uncomfortable and distressed.
Speaking after the sentencing, a relative of one of the victims said: "When he received the sentence his attitude didn't change one bit, he didn't look like he had any remorse for what he'd done." "I honestly believe he thought he was above the law." Lola, of Kingsbury Road, St John's, Worcester must now register at Worcester Police Station in accordance with the Sexual Offences Act 2003, where he'll remain on record for 10 years.
He has also been ordered to pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £128, which must by April 15, 2022.
Gurminder Lola was sentenced to the prison term at Kidderminster Magistrates Court on Friday, November 26 after being found guilty of the offences on October 27.
