GREGORY MILLS FROM NORTHAMPTON JAILED FOR SEXUAL OFFENSES INVOLVING 14-YEAR-OLD BOY IN BEDFORD
In a case that has shocked the Northampton community and beyond, Gregory Mills, a 22-year-old man residing in Northampton, was sentenced to a one-year prison term after being convicted of engaging in sexual activities with a minor.The incident unfolded after Mills traveled from Northampton to Bedford, where he met and engaged in inappropriate conduct with a 14-year-old boy.
The case came to light when the mother of the young victim discovered a series of Facebook messages exchanged between her son and Mills.
The mother, who has chosen to remain anonymous for legal reasons, immediately contacted Mills to confront him about the messages.
During their communication, she made it clear that her son was only 14 years old and emphasized that any sexual contact with a minor of that age was illegal and morally wrong.
Following this discovery, the mother reported the matter to the police several days later.
However, initially, the 14-year-old boy refused to cooperate with law enforcement, declining to provide a statement or offer further details about the incident.
Despite his reluctance, authorities proceeded with their investigation and managed to recover five pages of messages exchanged between Mills and the young boy, which served as crucial evidence in the case.
Gregory Mills, who resides at Cottesbrooke Gardens in Northampton, pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual activity with a child during a court hearing held in July of the previous year.
The court proceedings revealed that Mills had traveled from Northampton to Bedford with the intent of meeting the minor for sexual purposes.
During the hearing, Stefan Weidmann, representing Mills, attempted to provide some context for his client’s actions.
He explained that Mills was a young man grappling with his own identity and that his initial intention was to seek friendship within the online gay community.
According to Weidmann, the relationship began as a friendship, which eventually led to sexual contact on a single occasion.
The defense also highlighted that Mills, who works within the motor racing industry, was supported by his parents.
He described Mills’ family as loving and supportive, expressing that they were shocked and appalled by his actions but remained committed to standing by him.
Despite these mitigating factors, Judge Barbara Mensah delivered a stern verdict.
She emphasized the seriousness of the offense, stating, “This was a very serious offence.
I know it was consensual but it should not have been.
You knew he was under age.
A child of 14 is immature.
You were the adult.
You should have known better.” As part of his sentence, Mills was issued a Sexual Offences Prevention Order, which prohibits him from having any unsupervised contact with boys under the age of 16 for the next five years.
Additionally, he is required to register as a sex offender, a measure aimed at safeguarding minors and preventing future offenses.
