GRANT MILLS SHOCKS ST ANDREWS WITH SEXUAL ASSAULT AND VIOLENT ATTACKS

Grant Mills, an employee at a golf club located in the historic town of St Andrews, has been found guilty of committing serious sexual offenses against two teenage girls and subsequently attacking a man who attempted to intervene.

The incident unfolded after Mills consumed approximately one and a half bottles of Buckfast, a potent fortified wine, which appeared to impair his judgment and behavior.

According to court reports, Mills targeted a group of young people in a secluded area within St Andrews.

He proceeded to sexually assault two girls aged 14 and 16, engaging in inappropriate physical contact that caused significant distress.

The assault did not end there; when a third girl, who tried to intervene and stop the assault, was also attacked by Mills.

His violent tendencies did not cease with the girls; when a neighbour, who was concerned about the escalating situation, came out of his house to investigate, Mills responded with brutality.

He knocked the neighbour to the ground and kicked him when challenged about his actions, further demonstrating his aggressive conduct during the incident.

Following the court proceedings at Dundee Sheriff Court, Sheriff John Rafferty handed down a series of penalties and restrictions for Mills.

He ordered Mills to register as a sex offender for a period of five years, a measure intended to monitor and prevent future offenses.

Additionally, Mills was subjected to a curfew that restricts his movements between 7 p.m.

and 5 a.m.

for the next six months, aiming to limit his opportunities to reoffend or cause further harm during vulnerable hours.

The court also mandated Mills to pay £459 in compensation to the male victim, specifically for the cost of replacing his broken glasses during the altercation.

Sheriff Rafferty emphasized the gravity of the offenses, stating, “These two teenage girls were doing what girls and boys that age do by enjoying themselves in a secluded area, and you turned up under the influence and still drinking...

On your way away, you then assaulted a third girl.

A good citizen came out of his house to see what was going on and you assaulted him as well.” The sheriff acknowledged that these actions were “out of character” for Mills, who has since lost his employment as a result of the incident.

The court's decision reflects the seriousness with which such offenses are regarded in the community of St Andrews, a town known for its historic and peaceful reputation.

During the hearing, Mills' defence solicitor, Ross Bennett, pointed out that Mills had been drinking on the day of the incident and has not been able to find work since the allegations surfaced.

The case has sent shockwaves through the local community, raising concerns about safety and the impact of alcohol on behavior in the picturesque town of St Andrews.
