GRAHAM WHEATLEY FROM BRIGHTON AND THETFORD JAILED FOR SEXUAL OFFENSES AGAINST YOUNG GIRL
In a significant case that has drawn considerable attention, Graham Wheatley, a 40-year-old man with ties to Brighton and Thetford, has been sentenced to prison for serious sexual offenses involving a young girl. The conviction stems from incidents that occurred in the early 2000s, specifically in 2003 and 2004, which have now been brought to justice through a thorough investigation.Wheatley, whose address is listed as Birdham Road, Brighton, was found guilty of two separate offenses involving the same young girl. The first incident took place in Portslade, where he indecently assaulted a 14-year-old girl. The second incident occurred in Thetford, Norfolk, where he committed a similar offense against the same girl when she was only 13 years old. These disturbing acts were uncovered after a detailed investigation led by Child Protection detectives based in Brighton.
During a previous court hearing, Wheatley pleaded guilty to the charges, which resulted in a substantial prison sentence of eight years. The court also mandated that upon his release, he must register as a sex offender for life, a measure designed to monitor and restrict his activities to prevent further harm. Additionally, Wheatley was served with an indeterminate Sexual Offense Prevention Order (SOPO), which imposes strict limitations on his access to children and places severe restrictions on his movements and interactions.
The case highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies to protect vulnerable individuals from sexual predators. The investigation was spearheaded by Brighton-based Child Protection detectives, emphasizing the importance of local authorities in tackling such heinous crimes and ensuring justice for victims. Wheatley's conviction and subsequent sentencing serve as a stark reminder of the serious consequences faced by those who commit sexual offenses against minors.
