GRAHAM MAYNARD CAUGHT IN TOOTHILL WITH DISGUSTING CHILD IMAGES AT WEYMOUTH BEACH
In a case that has shocked the local community, Graham Leonard Maynard, a 46-year-old resident of Almwick, Toothill, was found to possess a disturbing collection of indecent images of children on his personal computer. The incident came to light after Maynard was observed taking photographs of children on Weymouth beach, a popular seaside resort, approximately three years ago.According to court proceedings, Maynard was initially spotted by witnesses or authorities capturing images of minors on the beach, which prompted police to intervene. Following his arrest, law enforcement officials conducted a thorough search of his home, where they seized his laptop computer. A subsequent examination of the device revealed a total of 13 indecent images of children stored within its files.
During the hearing at Dorchester Crown Court, Judge Roger Jarvis described the images as 'disgusting,' emphasizing the severity of the material found. The prosecution, led by Stuart Ellacott, detailed the timeline of events, stating that Maynard's suspicious activity on Weymouth beach on August 15, 2007, had initially brought him to police attention. At that time, Maynard was on holiday from his residence in Swindon.
Mr. Ellacott explained that after Maynard's arrest, authorities seized his laptop, which contained the illicit images. The images were classified according to their severity, with seven being graded as level one, two as level three, and four as level four, indicating varying degrees of seriousness. The court also noted that Maynard had a criminal history, with two prior convictions for indecent assault dating back to 1990 and 1997.
Judge Jarvis expressed his disgust at the nature of the images, stating, 'I have seen some of the images and they are disgusting. It is a mystery to most people as to why it is people like you get gratification from them.'
As a result of his actions, Maynard was sentenced to 50 weeks in prison, suspended for one year. Additionally, he was placed under a community order for three years, which includes supervision and mandatory participation in a sex offenders’ treatment program. Furthermore, he was registered on the Sex Offenders’ Register for a period of seven years and was subject to a Sexual Offences Prevention Order, aimed at monitoring and restricting his activities to prevent further offenses.
