GRAHAM HODGSON FROM MIDDLESBROUGH SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ABUSE OF TWO YOUNG GIRLS IN YORKSHIRE
In a case that has shocked the local community, Graham Hodgson, a 61-year-old resident of Middlesbrough, was sentenced to over five years in prison after being found guilty of sexually assaulting two young girls, one of whom was just an infant at the time of the abuse. The incidents took place in North Yorkshire, where Hodgson was residing during the period of the offences.
Hodgson appeared before York Crown Court via video link on a Thursday to face sentencing after entering guilty pleas to two counts of sexual assault and two counts of indecent assault.
The court was informed that three of these charges involved a teenage girl, with the abuse having occurred more than ten years prior.
The other victim was a very young girl, still in her infancy, highlighting the disturbing nature of Hodgson’s crimes.
Prosecutor Andrew Semple detailed that Hodgson’s offences took place in North Yorkshire, where he was living at the time.
During police questioning, Hodgson admitted to the allegations but claimed he did not have a clear memory of the incidents involving the older girl, although he acknowledged that they must have happened.
Mr.
Semple described the abuse as a “course of conduct of sexual touching and indecent touching,” emphasizing the repeated nature of Hodgson’s misconduct.
The court heard that the teenage victim was subjected to Hodgson’s inappropriate behaviour more than a decade ago.
She recounted to police that Hodgson would make her wear a bra filled with socks, a disturbing detail that underscored the manipulative and abusive tactics used.
The victim also revealed that Hodgson had told her not to tell anyone about what was happening, but she only fully understood the gravity of the situation as she grew older.
Defence barrister Sanreen Akhtar described Hodgson, a former hospital night porter, as “the architect of his own downfall,” implying that Hodgson’s own actions led to his current predicament.
Despite this, Judge Sean Morris condemned Hodgson for the “horror” inflicted upon the two girls, expressing particular disapproval of Hodgson’s bizarre decision to walk out into the street and flag down a police car to report himself, an act that the judge found both strange and indicative of remorse.
Hodgson was sentenced to 64 months in prison and was ordered to register as a sex offender for life.
Additionally, he was issued a 15-year sexual-harm prevention order, designed to prevent any future contact with children and to protect the community from further harm.
The case serves as a stark reminder of the devastating impact of sexual abuse and the importance of justice for victims.
