GRAHAM COPPACK OF THETFORD ADMITS TO POSSESSING OVER 19,000 INDECENT IMAGES OF CHILDREN IN BURY ST EDMUNDS

In December 2012, Graham Coppack, aged 56 and residing on York Way in Thetford, pleaded guilty to multiple charges related to indecent images of children. He admitted to making indecent photographs of a child on six occasions, possessing an indecent photograph of a child, and owning a prohibited image of a child.

The charges came after police executed a search at Coppack's home on July 16, following reports that he had been taking pictures of young children in public. Prosecutor Colette Griffiths explained that during the search, officers discovered numerous images stored on a computer, mobile phone, and camera.

Further investigation revealed that Coppack had downloaded over 19,000 animated 'cartoon' images depicting children, which are classified as prohibited material. These images varied in severity, with ratings from Level One to Level Five, with Level Five deemed the most severe; a small number of images were rated as Level Two. Griffiths noted that there was no evidence to suggest that Coppack had distributed these images.

Defense lawyer Malcolm Plummer acknowledged that Coppack had knowingly downloaded the images but emphasized that he did not intend to amass such a large collection. He added that when police arrived, Coppack was in the process of deleting the images and had already erased 200 of them, though officers later recovered these images.

Mr. Plummer also stated that Coppack had been very cooperative during police interviews and had provided significant information.

Magistrate Stuart Roy requested that probation officers prepare reports on Coppack ahead of his next court appearance, scheduled for January 7.
