GORDON CRACKNELL FROM FOULDEN CONVICTED OF SEXUAL ABUSE OF TWO YOUNG GIRLS IN NORWICH
In a case that has shocked the local community of Foulden and the surrounding areas, pensioner Gordon Cracknell, also known as Johnny, has been found guilty of serious sexual offenses involving two young girls.The allegations date back to the 1980s, when the victims, aged between 9 and 11 years old, endured a prolonged period of abuse that spanned several months.
Cracknell, who was regarded as a respected member of his local church community, vehemently denied the accusations throughout the trial.
Despite his protests of innocence, the jury at Norwich Crown Court reached a guilty verdict last month after a detailed and lengthy trial that commenced on March 24, 2014.
The court proceedings revealed that Cracknell was charged with multiple counts of indecent assault and indecency involving children.
Specifically, he was convicted on four counts of indecent assault on a child, which are violations of section 14(1) of the Sexual Offences Act 1956.
Additionally, he was found guilty of one count of indecency with a child, in accordance with section 1(1) of the Indecency with Children Act 1960.
However, the jury acquitted Cracknell on five other counts of indecent assault, indicating that the evidence was not sufficient to establish guilt beyond a reasonable doubt for those charges.
The case has been adjourned for sentencing, which is scheduled to take place on May 2, 2014.
