GLYN DAVIES PAEDOPHILE CAUGHT ON LLANDUDNO BEACHES AND REVEALED IN COLWYN BAY COURT
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Llandudno, a pensioner named Glyn Davies, aged 74 and residing on Mostyn Broadway, was exposed as a convicted paedophile after authorities uncovered a collection of indecent images of children stored on his laptop. The revelation came to light when Davies visited a local computer repair shop in Colwyn Bay, leading to a series of investigations that uncovered a disturbing pattern of illegal activity.According to the prosecution, Emmalyne Downing, the offences involved the filming of young girls on the beaches of Llandudno’s North Shore and West Shore, as well as at the Craig y Don paddling pool. The images and videos, totaling 50 indecent movies, depicted children in bathing suits or completely nude, captured surreptitiously during various visits to these popular seaside locations.
The case was brought before Caernarfon Crown Court, where it was revealed that the offences spanned from 2007 up until September of the previous year. The discovery was made when Davies took his laptop to Computer World in Colwyn Bay for repairs and cleaning. It was during this visit that Paul Jackson, an employee of the family-run business, identified the presence of pornographic images on the device. Recognizing the severity of the content, Jackson promptly reported his findings to the police.
Subsequent police searches of Davies’ residence uncovered two additional laptops. These devices contained a total of 16 images classified as Category A, the most serious form of child abuse material, along with 24 images and videos categorized as Category B. Additionally, nearly 2,400 images fell under Category C, which includes less severe but still illegal content. Among these, over 100 images were directly linked to Davies, including the 50 images taken at Llandudno beaches, capturing children in vulnerable situations.
The images depicted a total of 25 different girls or groups, with ages ranging from as young as three to approximately 13 years old. These photographs and videos were taken across 18 separate days, highlighting a pattern of repeated offending. Davies pleaded guilty to five charges related to the possession and distribution of child sexual abuse images, with offenses dating from 2007 through to September of the previous year.
In sentencing, Judge David Hale sentenced Davies to 26 months in prison. The court also imposed a sexual harm prevention order and a lifetime sex offender’s order, ensuring ongoing restrictions and monitoring of Davies’ activities. During the sentencing remarks, Judge Hale referenced Davies’ criminal history, noting that he had previously served four years in prison in 1989 for indecency offences involving schoolgirls, some of whom he had also photographed. The judge emphasized that Davies had not learned from his past, stating, “You didn’t learn your lesson.”
Addressing the photographs taken at the beaches, the judge condemned Davies’ actions, saying, “You couldn’t resist taking photographs of them with the zoom lens of your camera, invading their privacy.” He further criticized Davies for complaining about his own privacy being infringed when the shop staff discovered the images. The judge highlighted the heinous nature of the Category A images, which would have shown children being openly abused somewhere in the world, captured for Davies’ personal gratification.
Following the case, Paul Jackson expressed his relief and satisfaction at having identified the illegal images. The 31-year-old, who is a father himself, was pleased that Davies had been caught and brought to justice. Jackson explained that a small thumbnail preview of the images led to the discovery, and once the nature of the content was understood, police were immediately notified. Jackson’s quick action and the shop’s vigilance played a crucial role in uncovering this disturbing case of child exploitation in Llandudno.
