Peter Booth

Llandudno Sexual Abuser

April 2019 Pervert admitted watching two girls in the Philippines being sexually abused online A pervert who admitted watching two girls in the Philippines being sexually abused online has been locked up. Peter Booth was jailed for seven years and four months after pleading guilty to four charges of causing or inciting the sexual exploitation of a child under 13 by paying to view the live abuse via Skype. The 74-year-old, of St Andrew’s Avenue in Llandudno, had also admitted charges of possessing indecent images of children and distributing such images, and having extreme pornographic material of children on a laptop and a mobile phone. Jailing him at Caernarfon Crown Court, Judge Timothy Petts said: “What you did to these girls was absolutely horrific. It was all done for your perverted pleasure. “In addition, investigations showed you were collecting images of child abuse and sharing these with others. “These are very serious offences and only a lengthy prison sentence can be justified.” The judge was told Booth was a married man with no previous convictions, but his family had disowned him and only a sister was standing by him. “You have thrown away your good character and destroyed relationships with members of your own family and this is of your own making,” he said. Booth, who was said to be in poor health, showed no emotion as he was led away to begin his sentence. Richard Edwards, prosecuting, said police became aware that indecent images of children were being uploaded to the internet from Booth’s address. Officers raided his home in March last year, computer equipment was seized, and Booth was arrested and interviewed. Mr Edwards said Booth admitted he had seen indecent images of children but “hadn’t got any”. Tests showed there were more than 500 indecent images on a laptop and a mobile phone. Officers found two videos on the phone in which a man, later identified as Booth, could be seen masturbating in an inset screen as two girls were being abused online. Mr Edwards said Booth was online to the abuse being carried out in the Philippines via Skype and had filmed it on his mobile phone. He had paid for access to the abuse and was “actively directing” what was happening, the court heard. Further investigations showed Booth had made 250 transactions to eight recipients in the Philippines between September 2015 and June last year, which amounted to just under £20,000. Defence counsel Matthew Curtis said Booth’s offences were “disgusting to all right-minded individuals” and realised a lengthy jail term would be passed. “By his own actions, he is a broken man,” he said. Mr Curtis said that, following his arrest, Booth had tried to take his own life. After his release, Booth will be monitored by the Probation Service, is the subject of a lifelong Sexual Harm Prevention Order, and is banned from working with children or vulnerable adults. His details will remain on the Sex Offenders Register for life. The judge also ordered the computer equipment be confiscated. March 2019 Pensioner who watched live abuse of children on Skype warned he faces jail A pensioner has been warned he faces a lengthy jail sentence after admitting he watched children in the Philippines being abused online. Peter Booth pleaded guilty to four charges of causing or inciting the sexual exploitation of a child under 13 by paying to view the live sexual abuse of children via Skype. A judge at Caernarfon Crown Court was told the children in a 13-minute video were aged just nine and six years old. The offences were said to have been committed in July 2016. The 74-year-old, of St Andrew’s Avenue in Llandudno, also admitted charges of possessing indecent images of children and distributing such images. Booth also admitted possessing extreme pornographic material and prohibited images of children. Defence counsel Matthew Curtis said Booth realised a jail sentence would be imposed and asked for an adjournment in order for Booth, who he said was in poor health, to put his affairs in order. Judge Timothy Petts said: “These are very serious offences to which you have pleaded guilty and the only realistic outcome is a lengthy custodial sentence, even allowing for your age and your medical history.” Adjourning sentence for the preparation of reports, the judge added the Probation Service would consider the risk posed by Booth to others. Booth will be sentenced next month but in the meantime his details will be placed on the sex offenders register.
