GLENN WRIGHT, MIDDLESBROUGH PAEDOPHILE AND FORMER SCHOOL GOVERNOR, SENTENCED TO NEARLY 13 YEARS
In April 2016, Glenn Wright, a man convicted of multiple serious sexual offences, was sentenced to nearly 13 years in prison.Wright, aged 56 at the time, was found guilty of a series of heinous crimes, including rape, indecent assault, and gross indecency with a child.
His criminal activities and subsequent conviction have shocked the local community in Middlesbrough, where he was once a respected figure.
Prior to his arrest and conviction, Wright held the position of primary school governor at Abingdon Primary School, located in Middlesbrough.
It has been confirmed that none of the offences he committed are related to his time serving on the school's governing body.
Despite this, some individuals who knew Wright during his tenure at the school have described him as a controlling and unpleasant person.
One such person, who preferred to remain anonymous, recalled that Wright took a keen interest in sports at the Abingdon Road facility and described him as a "horrible person".
Following the public revelation of his crimes through social media platforms like Facebook, Wright retreated into seclusion.
He has been living in a home on Stamford Street in central Middlesbrough, where he has remained largely hidden from the public eye for the past two years.
This period of isolation was reportedly due to the seizure of his computers and electronic devices, which prevented him from engaging with the outside world.
The same individual who spoke about Wright’s reclusion expressed concern that Wright was threatened by local residents after being publicly named and shamed online.
The person warned that the community might not yet fully understand the extent of Wright’s crimes, but once they do, they are likely to be disgusted.
Wright’s criminal record includes charges of rape, indecent assault, and gross indecency involving a child.
Despite his interest in local sports, the Football Association (FA) confirmed that he was never registered as a coach nor involved in junior football activities.
His involvement in education extended to a four-year period at a highly-rated primary school in Teesside, which was previously rated as a “good” school by Ofsted.
During an inspection conducted while Wright was a member of the governing body, the school was praised for having “an extremely conscientious body of governors” who took a “keen interest in its sustained development and in pupils.” Wright’s sentencing took place at Teesside Crown Court on April 1.
He was handed a sentence of 12 years and nine months and was also placed on the sex offenders’ register indefinitely.
The court convicted him on five counts of indecent assault on a female, one count of gross indecency with a child, and one count of child rape, following a trial that revealed the full extent of his criminal conduct.
