GEORGE YEBOAH SENTENCED IN TELFORD FOR SEXUAL OFFENSES INVOLVING TEENAGER
In April 2019, a man from Telford, identified as George Yeboah, was sentenced to prison for engaging in sexual activity with a minor. The incident took place in the woods near Telford, where Yeboah, aged 29 and residing in Dun’s Heath, Hollinswood, lured a teenage girl into a secluded area for the purpose of sexual intercourse.
According to court proceedings at Shrewsbury Crown Court, it was established that Yeboah was aware that the girl was underage at the time of the offense.
The court was informed that the act occurred in 2017, and Yeboah did not deny his involvement.
The prosecution, led by Mr.
Darron Whitehead, emphasized the seriousness of the crime, which involved a clear breach of trust and the exploitation of a minor.
During the sentencing, Judge Anthony Lowe sentenced Yeboah to 38 months in prison.
The judge also stated that Yeboah would be required to serve half of his sentence before being eligible for release on licence.
Additionally, Yeboah was ordered to register as a sex offender, reflecting the gravity of his actions and the need for ongoing monitoring.
Yeboah’s defense attorney, Mr.
Robert Edwards, argued that his client did not groom the teenager and characterized the incident as opportunistic rather than predatory.
However, Judge Lowe was unequivocal in his remarks, emphasizing the moral and legal wrongfulness of the act.
The judge stated, “You knew the girl was underage and you have accepted that you were the adult and that what you were doing was wrong — but it was very, very wrong.” Overall, the case highlights the ongoing efforts of the justice system to address and penalize offenses involving minors, especially those committed in secluded or vulnerable settings such as the woods near Telford.
