GEORGE DAVIES FROM BLURTON SENTENCED FOR SEX OFFENSES INVOLVING THREE SCHOOLGIRLS IN STOKE-ON-TRENT

In a case that has shocked the local community, pensioner George Davies, a resident of Beaconsfield Drive in Blurton, was sentenced to prison for a series of disturbing sexual assaults committed against three young schoolgirls. The crimes, which took place in Stoke-on-Trent during the early 1970s, have left lasting scars on the victims and have been the subject of a lengthy legal process.

Davies, aged 64 at the time of sentencing, was convicted after a trial held at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court in November. The charges he faced included five counts of indecent assault, which he denied, along with other serious allegations such as child cruelty, attempted rape, assault, and rape. Despite his denials, the court found him guilty of the five indecent assault charges.

During the trial, one of the victims, who chose to remain anonymous for legal reasons, delivered an emotional statement to the court. She recounted her ongoing trauma, stating, “The things you have done will traumatise me for the rest of my life. I will have to go for counselling for a long time to try and come to terms with what you did to me. I may never come to terms at all.” She further expressed her feelings of betrayal and mistrust, emphasizing that Davies showed no remorse for his actions.

The court also heard about the involvement of Barry Crawford, a man from Brookwood Drive, Meir, aged 75, who was also implicated in the case but tragically took his own life during the trial. The judge acknowledged Crawford’s role, describing him as the main offender, but noted that the maximum sentence for the offences committed in the 1970s was five years, which limited the court’s sentencing options.

Judge David Fletcher addressed Davies directly, stating, “This was behaviour perpetuated by you during five years of the 1970s. The victims will agree it was not just because of what happened to them at your hands — it was to do with the presence of Barry Crawford. Your victims have had to live with it for 40 to 50 years and they are still living with it today.”

As a result of his convictions, George Davies has been sentenced to four years in prison. Additionally, he will be placed on the sex offenders’ register for the rest of his life, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities. The court also determined that Davies will be eligible for parole after serving half of his sentence, after which he will be subject to supervision and an additional 12 months on conditional license. The case highlights the long-lasting impact of childhood abuse and the importance of justice for victims who have endured decades of suffering.
