GEORGE GEARY SENTENCED TO 10 YEARS IN JAIL FOR CHILD RAPE IN KIDDERMINSTER AND WORCESTER

In a case that has shocked the local community, Geoffrey Geary, a 59-year-old man from Worcester Road, Kidderminster, has been sentenced to a decade behind bars for heinous crimes committed over two decades ago. The conviction follows a detailed retrial at Worcester Crown Court, where a jury found Geary guilty of multiple serious sexual offenses, including rape, indecent assault, and indecency with a child.

Geary’s criminal actions date back more than 20 years, involving an eight-year-old girl who was victimized during that period. The case had initially been tried earlier this year, but the jury was unable to reach a verdict, prompting a retrial that lasted four days. The court proceedings revealed the disturbing details of the abuse, which had a profound and lasting impact on the victim’s life.

Judge David McEvoy, presiding over the case, emphasized the severity of the crimes, stating that raping a child is “one of the worst offences in the criminal calendar.” He expressed deep concern over the damage inflicted upon the young girl, who was robbed of her childhood innocence. The judge noted that the victim, now in her 30s, had required psychiatric treatment and believed that the abuse was a significant factor contributing to her ongoing anxieties and mental health struggles.

During the sentencing, Judge McEvoy highlighted the cruelty of Geary’s actions, especially noting how he exacerbated the trauma by forcing the victim to relive her ordeal in court. The victim was visibly distressed during her testimony, and the judge acknowledged the emotional toll this took on her, stating, “She was very upset and no-one could fail to be moved by that.”

Geary, who appeared in court with grey hair and dressed in a blue blazer, showed no visible emotion as he was sentenced. The court also gave the prosecution a week to decide whether to pursue additional charges against him related to the possession of indecent images of children, which involved downloading such material from the internet.

As part of his sentence, Geary will be registered as a sex offender for life, a measure designed to monitor and restrict his activities moving forward. His legal representative, Walter Bealby, defended Geary’s past service record, noting that he had served in the army for 29 years, during which he faced life-threatening situations, including being shot at during active duty. Bealby expressed regret that the convictions would likely prevent Geary from participating in army reunions, effectively severing his connection to a career he once loved.

Bealby also shared that Geary’s wife was devastated by the verdicts, and she had been sending him affectionate text messages while he was in custody. He emphasized that the offenses occurred many years ago and suggested that Geary still has a significant amount of life ahead of him, despite the gravity of his crimes. The court found Geary guilty of seven charges, while acquitting him of one rape count and two counts of indecency with a child, underscoring the complexity of the case and the jury’s careful deliberation.
