GEMMA PLESTED BANNED FROM PET OWNERSHIP AFTER BLOXWICH DOG EATS COCAINE IN BIRMINGHAM

Gemma Plested, born on October 3, 1984, and residing on Old Lane in Bloxwich, Walsall, found herself at the center of a serious animal welfare case that drew attention from local authorities and the courts. The incident, which took place in Birmingham on January 14, 2021, involved her American bulldog named Tate, a female dog that became the subject of concern due to her health and safety.

Animal welfare investigators from the RSPCA became aware of the situation and expressed their worries about Tate’s well-being. Their concerns prompted the issuance of a warrant for Plested’s arrest, leading to her being taken into custody on suspicion of animal welfare offences. The investigation revealed that Plested had failed to take appropriate measures to protect her dog from harm, specifically neglecting to prevent Tate from ingesting illegal substances.

During her court appearance, Plested admitted guilt to charges related to her failure to ensure Tate’s safety. She acknowledged that she did not take the necessary steps to prevent her dog from consuming cocaine, which posed a significant risk to her health and well-being. The court also heard that between January 10 and January 15, 2021, Plested failed to provide Tate with adequate care and supervision, further contributing to the welfare concerns.

As a result of her guilty plea, the court sentenced Plested to a community order, requiring her to comply with certain conditions. She was also ordered to pay a total of £745 in fines and costs. Additionally, she was disqualified from owning or keeping any pets for a period of ten years. However, she retains the right to appeal this ban after five years.

This case highlights the importance of responsible pet ownership and the serious consequences of neglecting animal welfare laws. The incident has been reported by Birmingham Live and serves as a reminder of the legal obligations owners have to ensure their animals are protected from harm and properly cared for.
