ENFIELD MAN JAILED FOR LIFE AFTER KILLING GIRLFRIEND IN DOMESTIC ROW
A man who murdered his girlfriend by stabbing her during an argument over their pet has been sentenced to life in prison.
Gavin Wilson, aged 42, inflicted a stab wound to Lindsey Smith, also 42, following a dispute outside their residence in Enfield.
Wilson, who had a documented history of domestic violence, was convicted of her murder at Wood Green Crown Court on Tuesday and received a life sentence the next day, with a minimum term of 20 years.
Witnesses reported observing the couple having a heated argument outside their home on the afternoon of March 11.
They entered the house around 5 pm, the time prosecutors say the attack took place, after which Wilson left the scene.
Authorities found Ms.
Smith's body on the sofa, with visible bruising and a puncture wound to her stomach.
A bloodstained kitchen knife was recovered nearby.
She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Wilson initially claimed he returned to find his girlfriend dead but was arrested on suspicion of murder.
His account was contradicted by friends’ testimonies.
Detective Inspector Paul Considine explained: “There was a history of domestic abuse between Wilson and Lindsey, and on this day, tensions escalated, leading Wilson to fatally stab her.
He attempted to lie about his whereabouts, but evidence collected by officers proved otherwise, and I am satisfied with his conviction.” Wilson will serve a minimum of 20 years for his crime.
