March 2016 Pervert tried to get New Zealand girl, 14, to film herself in lewd acts A sex offender who broke court orders to make lewd contact with a girl aged 14 over the internet has been put behind bars for four years. Gavin Rhodes used the computer of his girlfriend, who knew nothing of his past, to set up the link, a judge was told. The 33-year-old pervert established an owner user profile for himself on the laptop and used it to hoard 23 indecent images – both still and moving – ten of which were described as being of the worst category of indecency, Wolverhampton Crown Court heard. Rhodes then made contact with a 14-year-old girl in New Zealand through the KIK messaging service and attempted to get her to engage in filmed sexual activity during a near six hour conversation via the internet, revealed Mr John Evans, prosecuting. The defendant was banned from using a computer to contact any girl under 16 as part of a Sexual Offences Prevention Order imposed when he was jailed for three years for attempting to incite a 13-year-old to engage in sexual activity in March 2011. He had also broken further terms of the Order by changing his address without telling the authorities when moving in with his girlfriend, whom he had met through an internet dating site just before Christmas 2013. Mr Evans continued: “By early the following year they had moved in together at her address in Wolverhampton. He had access to her computer and created an account in his name. She knew nothing of his past.” She had since discovered ‘all there is to know’ about him and was standing by him, revealed Mr William Dudley, defending. Rhodes was caught out when traced by his offender manager to the girlfriend’s address where the laptop and his mobile phone were seized by police. The devices were then analysed by experts who discovered the pornography and details of his long distance conversation with the girl in New Zealand. Rhodes from Forge Close, Pendeford admitted inciting a girl under 16 to engage in sexual activity, possession of indecent images and breaching the terms of his Sexual Offences Prevention Order. He was jailed by Recorder Stephen Thomas who told him: “You have persisted in sexual offending and continued with similar offences despite receiving a substantial prison sentence in the past.”
