June 2019 Renfrewshire child abuse image fiend dodges jail A paedophile caught with a stash of child sex abuse images has been spared jail. Gavin Blair, 29, has been slapped with community service for downloading dozens of indecent pictures over six years . The youngest victim was aged just seven. Blair was placed under supervision after admitting the offence at Paisley Sheriff Court. Prosecutor Keri Marshall told how cops swooped on his home during an early-morning raid. She said: “Police obtained a search warrant for the property which was executed at 7.35am. “The accused was present during the time of the search. “Various items were seized, including a black Acer laptop, which was recovered from the living room. “He was asked who it belonged to. “He replied ‘Me.’ “He was asked if anyone else had access to it. He replied ‘No.’ “A preliminary check of the laptop revealed indecent images and the accused was arrested. “He was taken to Helen Street Police Office where he was interviewed. “During the course of the interview he admitted using the laptop to browse porn sites and watching ‘everything’. “But he denied being sexually interested in children.” Blair pled guilty to downloading nearly 100 images over a six-year period. He amassed a cache of vile pictures showing youngsters being sexually abused. He tried to delete the files – but they were recovered by cyber crime experts. Several were deemed to be among the worst category for depravity. These included a girl, 13, being molested by a man. Others showed a girl of 11 being abused and another a naked seven-year-old. The cache was revealed after police searched his home in Barrhead’s Levern Crescent after receiving a tip-off. Blair was arrested over the find on June 8 last yeat. He admitted accessing the images between March 2012 and last August. Sheriff Frances McCartney placed him on the Sex Offenders’ Register for three years. Blair was placed under supervision for the period and has been ordered to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work.
